Is this just too menial to worry about?
I bought a very nice, non-stick baking sheet/pan, and since a pair of roommates moved in, they destroyed it. They scraped off the non-stick sheen and burnt it to a crisp. They cut into it with knives and pizza cutters. I think what they've done is so juvenile, because they couldn't keep it decent while they were using it, especially since it wasn't even theirs. How could they treat other people's things like this? I've left notes for them to stop, but it's too late. The pan is shot. Should I ask them to compensate me for it, even though they could easily say I did the damage over time too? Or should I just take their pans? The last statement was more of a joke. I don't feel like it's fair that I have to go buy a new pan because of their negligence.
I'm thinking you need new roommates. That may be throwing out the baby with the bathwater, but if they have that little respect for the cooking utensils, what else have they destroyed? Next time you get roommates, make it clear what is expected in the way of care -- before you let them move in. And I wouldn't buy a new pan until this batch of gunk has moved out!
