is there a way to clean plastic candle molds?
I make candles and you can use the ice water method above or even put them in the freezer. You can heat the molds with warm water and the wax peels right out. Or you can use Weiman's Wax remover available in the craft stores and it will remove the wax. (A handy product to have on hand if you make candles for spills as well as removing candle soot)

Before you start mixing your melt and pour homemade soap, be sure that you have your soap molds on hand. Of course, you would not want to spend a lot on buying silicon soap molds and the like. Here is a list of soap making molds which you can use and which you can find around the house for free:
1. Plastic ice cube trays that are flexible can be found discarded around the house. There are also some ice cube trays that come in various shapes like bear, star, diamond, etc.
2. Soda bottles, 16 oz or 20 oz, can be used by cutting off the bottom part which looks like a flower when inverted. You can also cut to the desired thickness of the soaps you are going to make.
3. Microwaveable muffin pans can also be used as soap molds and you can make them look like muffins by putting them in muffin paper cups..
4. The inexpensive plastic candy molds come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be used over and over again. You can even make soaps of different colors or combined colors.
5. Stainless baking pans can be used to make extra large molds of soap. Before the soap settles or hardens you can press on the top layer using old toys of your kids' favorite cartoon characters.
6. Margarine tubs can also be used as molds and would make larger soaps for use when taking long baths.
7. Old cookie cutters can also be used as soap molds as long as you line them up in a tray or a cookie sheet so that the melted soap will be able to settle.
8. Popsicle molds or ice drop molds can be bought at the plastics section of the supermarket or grocery. You can even put in some sticks so that it will easy to pull out the soaps once it has hardened.
9. Empty and washed ice cream cups can also be used as molds and the soaps will actually have those fluted sides as its design.
10. Small wooden boxes would be nice to use as molds because the grain of the wood will be etched on the soap.
Basically any kind of container that can hold liquid can be used as soap making molds but the best ones are those made of plastic, wood, stainless or silicone. Still you can use your ingenuity and find materials you can use as molds or combine molded soap to make beautiful designs.
