My dog,a standard poodle,is 4 years old and hyperactive.?

A "friend" suggested that castration would calm him down.I have my doubts

Check out the food you are giving him as that could be the cause. Try going to a dry already prepared mix and see if he calms down at all. Poodles are inclined to be excitable anyway but before drastic measures try the food route.
