How to season my stoneware?
I have some Pampered Chef and other brands of stoneware and I'm thinking to tossing all of it. Everything I cook in it sticks! Bread to the bottom of loaf pans, even shortbread crusts to the bottom of bakers. I've put plenty of grease and oil on them and they are still hateful. How do I solve this ?
Mail them to me! I'll pay shipping!
You need to bake greasy things on them, over and over again. Until they are seasoned and become close to non-stick, do things like Grands Biscuits on them; reheat leftover fried foods from restaurant take-outs on them. Anything greasy.
THEN, do not wash the oil off w/ detergent. hot water and the plstic scraper thingy only. It should get discolored and pretty ugly, actually, but the uglier it is, the better it works.
I'll be honest w/ you: I'm not a big fan of muffin pans or loaf pans in the stoneware. Bread adn baked goods are just not greasy enough. If you do 2-3 meatloaves in the loaf pan, you ought to come a long way w/ it, though. Come to think of it, you can do "mini meat loaves" in the mufin pan as well.
Always oil or spray before use, even when smooth and seasoned. If it's still rough-feeling, it's not seasoned yet.
