Why is everyone bashing wedding themes?
Weddings have almost always had some sort of a "theme" to them. It used to pretty much only be a color scheme, but that it still a theme. Anyone with half a creative bone in their body would want the decor to match at their own wedding. Picking a color scheme is pretty much standard when it comes to planning a wedding celebration...and now picking an idea to go with that color scheme is popular. If you got married right before a holiday (i.e. Christmas), at a beach, or you are 100% Irish, who could blame someone for wanting that to be a part of the decor? Some people criticize "cookie-cutter brides"...so why should there be "cookie-cutter weddings"? Why do so many people think that individuals should not individualize their weddings?
I like sass's answer, some people just take it way too far. I like nothing better when brides and grooms go to the trouble to stamp their day with their personalities. I went to a wedding where the bride and groom are both wine buffs, they actually first met at a wine tasting! Their wedding was held at a vineyard and the reception at the cellar door afterwards. It was subtle but everyone at the ceremony commented on how appropriate it was for that particular couple. I have often giggled at those couples you see on the news from time to time who get married underwater or in a hot-air balloon or have an Elvis-themed wedding but now that I'm getting married myself I get it. Those couples just want a wedding that reflects their personalities and who they are. Kudos to couples who are brave enough to break the mould
